If you arrived here because you are interested in the City of Corvallis and it's goings-on, click 're Corvallis' on the menu and see kind of random pictures of the town and some of its activities under Corvallis pictures.
My son started this website for me three years ago, when I thought I would be living in Corvallis for a while. As it turns out, I left Corvallis soon after to come to help my parents in Valparaiso, Indiana.
The name corvalliswalkingtours is therefore an artifact of my days in Corvallis, but since the name corvallis means "heart of the valley" I have decided to use it in a more poetic than literal way. This website is all about the heart of the valley (Corvallis), or the valley of the heart (mine), or the vale of paradise (Valparaiso) or the Sacred Faith (Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I lived for thirty years. The whole name of Santa Fe is really La Via Real de Santa Fe de San Francisco de Assisi, if I remember correctly.)
If you have any questions about Corvallis or any portion of this website that I may be able to assist you with, please email me!
Apologia Two
This probably properly belongs in my For Book Butterflies articles, but since it is an apology and applies to my situation in general and not to any specific book I thought I'd put it here! Inspiration to look up the plural of the word!
Anyway, in one of my For Book Butterflies articles I suggested that we (readers) try to expose ourselves to relatively unknown works, and offered to try to do it myself. But unless someone wants to send me advance copies of books I don't know how I can really seriously propose to do it.
I guess my original idea was to try to purchase unknowns at the bookstore and write about them, but quite frankly, I don't have the funds to buy many books new at the bookstore! I also confess that any task I take on with a sense of duty and responsibility and commitment inevitably begins to seem burdensome and a chore.
I usually read where my whim leads me, and what comes to hand. If you want me to read something, I'll try to go along with that! Let me know!
Apologia Three April 23, 2008
I have just lost my Rumilluminations from March 10 - April 22, 2008, unfortunately before I copied them from the internet onto my computer. So, if by any chance you are looking for some joke or outrageous assertion or wayward unusual fact lately reported, it may be gone forever.
I'm upset, because I have really put quite a lot of soul-searching into what I have been writing about recently, but some of it I will revisit, perhaps from a different angle in the near future.
As for whether I will learn from this latest pushing-the-limits (in today's case the limit of article length) behavior on my part, probably not. But I will try. Sigh.
Four. Not really an apologia, since I'm not apologizing. Why write a section about **Movies**? They are so mass culture! Why bother? Why add my voice to the millions of others?
Because I want to, that's why!
